Faculty members from UCF from various departments achieved significant career milestones in obtaining promotions and tenure for the 2023-24 cycle. A total of 104 faculty members were approved – 63 for promotion, 40 for promotion and tenure, and one for tenure. They all underwent a rigorous evaluation process by their peers, as well as leaders at the college and university levels, which lasted almost an entire academic year. The final decisions on promotions are made by the president and provost, based on reviews and recommendations from the respective colleges and units. Tenure must be approved by the UCF Board of Trustees, as it is crucial in fulfilling UCF’s strategic goal of becoming a top state university, a top 25 public institution nationally, and the leading public metropolitan research university in the world. Tenure not only aids in recruiting and retaining exceptional faculty but also safeguards academic freedom and encourages faculty to focus on solving challenging and significant issues for the benefit of society.

UCF’s Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Michael D. Johnson, commended the faculty members who earned promotions and tenure, stating that they had met high standards of excellence and productivity in their teaching, research, and service over several years. He expressed confidence in their ability to contribute significantly to UCF’s future success.
