A 17-year-old male was taken into custody by the authorities in Osceola County after he reportedly made threats to “shoot up” a nearby school. The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office (OCSO) received an anonymous tip through Fortify FL on October 28th regarding the teenager’s alleged verbal threats. The school’s resource officer at Poinciana High School was informed of the situation and the identity of the suspect. Deputies, along with the school resource officer, visited the teenager’s residence where they spoke to him and his mother. The suspect appeared nervous and even fainted briefly when questioned about the threats. His mother allowed deputies to search the house for any firearms. Inside the teenager’s backpack, authorities discovered a bottle labeled “Crown Royal Regal Apple,” a Glock 19 pistol, and a 34-round extended magazine. The teenager claimed to have found the gun in Orlando, but it was later revealed to be stolen. A search of his bedroom turned up marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and more ammunition. The teenager was arrested and is facing charges including grand theft of a firearm, possession of a firearm as a minor, possession of marijuana, possession of alcohol as a minor, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The OCSO praised the Fortify FL tip for preventing a potential tragedy and urged the public to report any threats to school safety. Anyone with information on this case or similar incidents is asked to contact the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office at 407-348-2222.
